The SchoolA special school for children and young people with autism and severe learning difficulties based in the London Borough of Hounslow are seeking to appoint an experienced SEN teacher to start with them on a long term 1 year maternity contract from September. The SEN Teacher will be joining an outstanding school that educates pupils with moderate to severe learning difficulties a high proportion of whom have a diagnosis of autism and have speech language and communication difficulties. In 2019 Ofsted judged the school as outstanding, behaviour and leadership were singled out as as outstanding. In the next year or so the school will be moving into a new £30m purpose built complex, which will better meet the needs of our pupils and enhance their education. The SEN Teacher JobThey are currently recruiting for a classroom based SEN teacher to work in the primary department. The successful applicant will have a very small class (6 pupils) with a high ratio of staff to pupils (2 Full Time TAs). They are looking for SEN Teacher applicants who have experience or understanding of pupils with SEND, specifically autism if possible although other experience and a desire to learn is enough. The Headteacher has said that whilst the initial contract is a year maternity cover they have expansion plans in place for the coming year and that the successful applicant will be offered a permanent contract from August 2022 subject to performance. The Headteacher is happy to consider applications from teachers currently in a mainstream or special school setting. A comprehensive induction programmes which can also support mainstream teachers who are interested in moving into special education is on offer to ensure a smooth and successful transition.
