Person Specification - Teacher of Food and Textiles - Redhill, Surrey
The vacancy is for a part time teacher of food and textiles, approximately 0.6FTE spread over 4 days per week. The post is a temporary maternity cover appointment which is expected to start on 13th September 2021. It will last for up to 12 months, but due to the nature of the post there is no guaranteed minimum length of employment. The person appointed will teach mainly food (KS3) and some textiles (up to KS4.)
KS3 Food
The teacher appointed must have key subject knowledge and skills and have a passion for food education. They must be a team player and put students first. It is essential to have good time management and organisational skills. They must be able to create and select high quality resources to demonstrate their practical skills accurately and safely and thus enable learners to do this too. The food curriculum at KS3 includes both demonstrations of making food dishes and practical lessons for the students. These lessons are linked to theory work on nutrition, food science and food provenance, as well as the Eatwell Guide.
KS4 Textiles
The teacher appointed must have key subject knowledge and skills in teaching textiles and the 'arts'. They must be a conscientious practitioner who works well in a team; multi-tasking will be a priority working across the Textiles and Food departments. Textiles is a part of a department that also includes photography and so is classed as a 'specialist fine art course'. The emphasis on learning is accessing art through the medium and skill base of textiles, therefore the person appointed will be required to make and deliver high level resources, to aid the teaching and learning within existing schemes of work.
