Ideally you will have some experience working with young children, perhaps as a tutor or a sports coach but this is not essential provided you have a good grasp of the key stage 2 curriculum and can support students accordingly.
Responsibilities of a year 5 teaching assistant?
- The responsibilities of a year 5 teaching assistant are varied and cover a wide range of knowledge rich topics such as the rainforest, the Anglo Saxons/Vikings and the Greeks. The school curriculum balances all foundation subjects whilst prioritising English, maths and reading skills.
- Supporting the class teacher, ensuring children are safe and happy and maintaining behaviour in the classroom.
- Building trust and supporting young children as they grow into young adults
- Supporting children with some additional learning needs such as mild autism, ADHD and English as a second language
