Cover Supervisors - Secondary Alternative Provision - Harrow - Full-time/Part-time , Short/Long-term Options - Start October
We are working with a trust of specialist schools in Harrow who are seeking to recruit for a number of Cover Supervisor staff. We are building a pool; of staff for short term sicknesses and floating roles across the trust as well as a number of full time positions supporting learning for a range of core subjects including Maths, Science, MFL (Spanish and French) and English. If you are a passionate, emotionally intelligent and resilient person with a strong academic background and have a calm and practical approach to challenging situations then a role as a Cover Supervisor could be the stepping stone into a career in education for you.
We are looking for a flexible team (full time and part time positions are available) within an outstanding Secondary Alternative Provision School in Harrow that has a great team environment where staff are highly motivated and supported and where students make excellent progress both academically and socially. Long term positions will be full-time, whilst those seeking flexible working can join their expanding pool of daily short term cover staff.
In each case you will lead prepared work to a small class of around 5 students, many of whom present with challenging behaviours and require a supportive, nurturing, and consistent learning environment.
You will play a vital role in helping students aged 11-16 re-engage with education, develop their confidence, and achieve meaningful outcomes.
Cover Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
- Create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and progress.
- Use a range of behaviour management strategies to support students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
- Work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, and external professionals to support student development.
- Track and assess progress, providing constructive feedback and setting achievable targets.
Cover Supervisor Attributes:
- Tutoring/Cover Supervisor experience
- The school welcomes applications from behaviour mentors, experienced tutors and overseas trained teachers who are seeking to gain QTS
- Experience teaching/tutoring core subjects at secondary level (GCSE).
- Previous experience working with students with challenging behaviours or in an alternative provision, PRU, or SEMH setting.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to teaching.
