The Deputy Headteacher Job

I am looking for an experienced Deputy Headteacher to start at a specialist SEN school in South East London as soon as possible. The school specialises in teaching children aged 11-19 with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and severe learning difficulties (SLD) and is based in a modern purpose-built building. The school is located within zone 2 & has excellent transport links.

As the new Deputy Headteacher your role will be to support our new Headteacher in delivering the highest possible educational standards and creating an atmosphere and structure that all stakeholders can invest in.

The school is going through a period of change as it will be transitioning to academy status and receiving significant investment as it becomes part of a well-established, highly regarded, and successful academy trust. The challenges are significant but the rewards for all involved are great, not least for the very special young people whose lives you will play a big part transforming. Full details of the school's exciting transformation plans will be discussed with you at interview, and you will play an important strategic role in the development of the school curriculum, the identification and training of middle leaders and other areas of whole school performance.

Students at the school come from all over South and South East London the pupils are aged 11-19 with EHCPs for complex needs including severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, and health needs, many of whom are also on the Autistic Spectrum, have sensory needs or are physically disabled.

This small and friendly South East LondonSEN School provides a flexible, personalised curriculum and comprehensive support to meet their educational, physical, and emotional needs as individuals. The new Headteacher has many years' experience leading within special schools and she brings a positivity, openness, and determination to the job which staff really buy into.

The school benefits from a purpose-designed, award-winning building which is exceptionally well resourced and set up for the task. Its learning community reflects the rich diversity of the local area and comprises some 70 pupils and 50 staff supported by visiting professionals. The school benefits from exceptional public transport links as well as the support, skills, expertise, and funding from being part of a wider hub backed by the local authority. Together with parents and carers, they aim to help pupils make the best possible progress and achieve their full potential.

The Ideal Deputy Headteacher

You will need to be an experienced leader at senior management level with at least 5 year's teaching experience of working with pupils with SEN, gained either in a special school or in a mainstream school with a resource provision for those with PMLD, SLD and ASD.

You will need to be organised, dynamic, collaborative, and inclusive, with a relentless focus on achieving the best outcomes for the pupils. You will use your initiative to inspire, motivate and encourage staff and pupils within the school community. In return you will receive the opportunity and support to provide successful strategic and creative leadership to shape and influence the outcomes for an exceptional group of pupils in a happy, welcoming innovative school.

You have experience in developing personalised curriculum's leading to positive academic, social, and personal outcomes for pupils with complex special needs and in taking the lead on pupil and statutory assessments.

You will also have QTS and ideally further qualifications relevant to the position.
