Working Hours: Monday-Friday, term time only

A leading independent specialist school for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs is seeking a dedicated and passionate English Teacher to join their team on a maternity cover basis from October 2025.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced educator to teach secondary-aged students in a small, therapeutic setting where relationships and emotional wellbeing are at the heart of everything.

The Role

As English Teacher, you'll deliver engaging and differentiated lessons across KS3 and KS4 (GCSE), helping students re-engage with learning and build confidence in reading, writing and communication. Working closely with a supportive multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute to a calm, structured, and aspirational environment that nurtures every learner's progress-both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver creative, structured English lessons tailored to individual needs

  • Teach GCSE English Language and Literature to small class groups

  • Support students with SEMH needs using trauma-informed and relational approaches

  • Track progress and provide feedback through regular assessment and reports

  • Work collaboratively with SENCOs, therapists, and support staff

  • Maintain high expectations while fostering a compassionate classroom ethos

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent

  • Experience teaching English at secondary level, including GCSE

  • A solid understanding of SEMH needs and inclusive teaching practices

  • Resilience, adaptability, and a strong team ethic

  • Commitment to safeguarding and child-centred approach
