Health Care Assistant

We are currently seeking Health Care Assistants to work within special needs schools in the North West area of London. We are looking for people to start immediately, this is a full time, long term role with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. The children within this class are between the ages of 11 - 16 and have special needs such as Autism and Down Syndrome. It would be handy if the Health Care Assistant had the relevant knowledge of administering medications, manual handling, personal care and how to handle challenging behaviour. The Health Care assistant will be working as an SEN TA, which has all the main fundamentals of a health care assistant. Our main client schools, work with a magnitude of special needs.

Our client schools work specifically with complex special needs such as Autism, Profound Multiple learning difficulties, SLD, ADHD etc. We are currently searching for teaching assistants and health care assistants. This position will be working with children in small classes or on a 1:1 basis. We are looking for someone who is highly engaging and has strong understanding of being able to understand the needs of a child. Additionally, prior experience working with PECS or Makaton would be at a great advantage however this is not essential.

These schools don't follow the national curriculum and therefore are able to focus on the individual needs of every individual. All the students have personal goals set in place and are closely monitored by the classroom teacher and SEN TA's, this will then be reported back to the parents, to discuss progress. These schools have state of the art facilities and resources, such as a hydrotherapy pool, hoists and physiotherapists on site.

It is important to know that the successful Health Care Assistants will be required to feed and change in addition to any other personal care responsibilities that maybe required, therefore a background in nursing and/or PEG feeding would be useful, however the school create a very encouraging and helpful environment and are willing to offer any training.

This is an incredibly rewarding role with the results apparent and in front of you every day as you see each child gradually grow and push themselves.
