What does a Higher Level Teaching Assistant do?
The responsibilities of a Higher Level Teaching Assistant differ from those of a general TA, you will:
- Supporting teaching and learning: HLTA's assist teachers in planning, preparing, and delivering lessons to students, adapting materials to suit the needs of individual students, and supporting them with their learning.
- Classroom management: a higher level teaching assistant will help manage the classroom environment, implementing behavior management strategies, and ensuring that students are engaged and focused during lessons.
- Cover supervision: a higher level teaching assistant my be asked to cover for teachers when they are absent, supervising the class and delivering pre-planned activities to ensure continuity of learning
Assessment and feedback: a higher level teaching assistant may be involved in assessing student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents, and setting targets for improvement.
Supporting SEND students: a higher level teaching assistant often works with students who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), providing individual support and guidance to help them overcome barriers to learning.
Liaising with parents and carers: a higher level teaching assistant may communicate with parents and carers, providing feedback on student progress and discussing any concerns or issues that arise.
