What does a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) do?

As an HLTA, your role encompasses more than that of a general Teaching Assistant. Here's what you can expect:

  • Supporting Teaching and Learning: Assist teachers in planning, preparing, and delivering engaging lessons. Adapt materials to meet the needs of individual students and provide valuable support throughout their learning journey.
  • Classroom Management: Play a vital role in maintaining a positive classroom environment. Implement effective behavior management strategies and ensure students are focused and actively engaged during lessons.
  • Cover Supervision: Step up and cover for teachers when they are absent. Oversee the class and deliver pre-planned activities to ensure continuity of learning.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Contribute to student assessment by providing feedback to teachers and parents. Set targets for improvement and support students in achieving their goals.
  • Supporting SEND Students: Work closely with students who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Offer personalized support and guidance to help them overcome learning barriers.
  • Liaising with Parents and Carers: Establish strong communication channels with parents and carers. Provide regular feedback on student progress and address any concerns or issues that may arise.
