Role: Learning Mentor

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday - 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (1-hour dinner)
Pay: £13.69 to £15.87 per hour

Reeson Education is recruiting a resilient and compassionate Learning Mentor to support pupils aged 11 to 16 at a specialist secondary school in Wythenshawe. This Learning Mentor role is full-time and long-term, starting in September, working Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM with a 1-hour lunch break.
The school caters to pupils with SEMH, trauma-related needs, anxiety, depression, behavioural challenges, and other emotional and mental health difficulties. As a Learning Mentor, you'll work directly with young people who often find mainstream education overwhelming and who require stability, trust, and a safe space to succeed.
Learning Mentor Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a consistent and supportive Learning Mentor for pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Deliver targeted interventions focused on emotional regulation, self-esteem, and positive behaviour
- Work closely with pupils with trauma, anxiety, depression, and school avoidance
- Support teaching staff by helping pupils remain focused, engaged, and regulated
- Use de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed approaches in your Learning Mentor practice
- Create a safe, structured, and trusting environment where pupils can learn
- Support both 1:1 and small group sessions as a Learning Mentor
- Track progress, behaviour, and engagement to support future planning
- Communicate effectively with staff, families, and external professionals
- Act as a positive role model, promoting resilience, confidence, and self-worth
Learning Mentor Requirements:
- Experience working in an SEMH, alternative provision, or therapeutic setting
- Proven track record as a Learning Mentor, Youth Worker, TA, or Behaviour Mentor
- Confidence supporting young people with challenging behaviour and emotional needs
- Calm, grounded, and consistent approach to behaviour and communication
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches
- Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with vulnerable pupils
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to apply)
- Full-time commitment to a long-term Learning Mentor role
