I am looking for a number of experienced, dedicated and pro-active Learning Support Assistant candidates to join a top SEN School in Camden as soon as possible. I have 2 Learning Support Assistant positions available to start straight away based in a primary PMLD class, 2 posts in Secondary ASD and SLD and one in post 16 PMLD / complex needs classes.
Pupils at this Camden SEN school all have complex learning needs. As a Learning Support Assistant you will be working with students aged between 5 - 19, all of whom have statements of Special Education Needs. Most of the children you will be working with have very limited communication skills, and some are completely non-verbal. You will be working either 1:1 with a particular student or supporting a class alongside a team of fellow LSAs and the class teacher.

Learning Support Assistant Job Responsibilities
As the needs of the classes differ so do the responsibilities expected of the Learning Support Assistant staff members:
ASD/SLD Classes
In ASD and SLD classes pupils are developmentally delayed and need support with communication as well as many tasks that require fince motor skills, command of complex processes or nuanced tasks. They will be working on an adapted EYFS/KS1 curriculum and will be working below the expectation for their age range. These pupils need friendly support, good routine, patience and encouragement to progress but they can make huge leaps forward given the right support
SLD/PMLD Classes
In PMLD the learners have very complex learning and medical needs, most are wheelchair bound and are unable to communicate with the outside world - this means that a background in social care or nursing and some school based TA experience will be a huge advantage. You will be expected to support them with Hoisting, Manual Handling Needs and Personal Care (feeding, changing and toileting).
The personal care duties will include:
- Changing the students (ASD/SLD/PMLD classes)
- Feeding orally (ASD/SLD classes)
- Peg Feeding (PMLD classes)
- Helping students to brush their teeth (ASD/SLD/PMLD classes
- Hoisting (SLD/PMLD classes)
The Ideal Learning Support Assistant Applicant
To be eligible to apply for this position, you will need to be available to start immediately, as well as being able to commit to working 8:30 - 4pm, 5 days per week in Camden. You must have a good command of numeracy and literacy, as this is especially important when supporting pupils with limited communication skills.
Ideally, you will have the following experience:
- ASD, SLD or PMLD experience - school based, community or personal
- LSA, TA or health care assistant experience
- SEN experience
- Experience in or willing to do personal care and manual handling
