Full-Time Learning Support Assistant (Autism Focus)

Reeson Education, a well established education recruitment agency, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Full-Time Learning Support Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a Year 2 boy with autism. This is a long-term position starting in September 2023, providing a valuable opportunity to make a positive impact on the education and well-being of a young student.

As a Full-Time Learning Support Assistant, you will be responsible for providing individualized support to a Year 2 boy with autism, helping him access the curriculum and develop essential skills. You will work closely with the class teacher and the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to implement strategies and interventions tailored to the student's needs. Your role will involve assisting with academic tasks, promoting social interactions, managing behaviour, and providing emotional support.

The ideal candidate for this role will have experience working with students with autism, ideally within a primary school setting. You will have a good understanding of autism spectrum conditions and strategies to support learning and behaviour management. Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills are essential in building a trusting relationship with the student and collaborating effectively with the wider school community.

This is a full-time, long-term position offering competitive rates of pay in line with experience and qualifications.

Learning Support Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience working with students with autism, preferably within a primary school setting
  • Understanding of autism spectrum conditions and strategies to support learning and behaviour management
  • Ability to provide individualized support on a 1:1 basis
  • Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills
  • Collaborative approach to working with teachers, SENCo, and parents
  • Relevant qualifications or training in supporting students with special educational needs (desirable)
