Learning Support Assistant - Chiswick - Full Time - Temp to Perm - MLD - September Start
This is a specialist autism school providing education for pupils with Autism and Moderate Learning Difficulties. This school believes in offering a calm, focused, nurturing and safe environment. The curriculum is holistic and includes strong partnerships with Speech & Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists. Showing a strong emphasis on life skills, communication, social development, independence, physical and social wellbeing.
Role Purpose
As a Learning Support Assistant (LSA), you will support students whose learning is guided by their EHCPs. You will assist in delivering a differentiated, personalised education that helps pupils meet their academic, social, and life skills outcomes. You will work under direction of teachers and therapists to support individual, small-group or whole-class learning, as well as helping to promote independence, communication, social interaction and well being.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with Autism, Moderate Learning Difficulties, and associated learning, communication, interaction, and cognitive needs
- Assist in planning and delivering tailored support to help pupils engage with the National Curriculum as well as life-skills programmes.
- Facilitate communication skills, social skills, independence skills, ICT and wellbeing tasks.
- Provide a safe, calm and supportive learning environment.
- Help monitor and record pupils' progress, including supporting assessment, feedback and helping adapt teaching as needed.
- Promote pupils' physical and social wellbeing.
- Support behaviour management and social/emotional development consistent with school policies.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and safeguarding.
Learning Support Assistant Attributes
- Experience working with pupils with Autism, SEND, or Moderate Learning Difficulties preferred.
- Understanding of Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs) and how these guide support.
- Strong communication skills - verbal and written.
- Patience, empathy, flexibility, resilience; ability to respond to pupils' individual needs.
- Ability to work well in a team and build positive relationships with pupils, teachers, therapists, and parents.
- Good organisational skills; reliable; ability to adapt to changing priorities.
