LSA Tutor:
Location: Borough of Westminster, close to Victoria Station outside of a school environment
Hours: 32.5 hours a week (full time) term time only
Pay: £17-£19 per hour
Training: Paid-for PDA training required and provided to the successful candidate

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and creative LSA tutor to support a 6.5-year-old autistic child with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), alongside their tutor with a bespoke Key Stage 1 curriculum. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child's life by creating a positive, playful, and responsive learning environment. You will be working one-to-one with the young person, primarily within a home or therapeutic setting, with opportunities to explore outdoor or sensory-friendly spaces.
The LSA Tutor role:
Based in Westminster, near Victoria Station in a non-school setting base, this full time LSA Tutor role will involve assisting the lead tutor in delivering the bespoke curriculum that will be delivered to the student. You will have the opportunity to work 2.1 with the student to ensure that the student is happy and engaged with lessons.
LSA Tutor Key Responsibilities:
- Work with the lead tutor to assist in delivering a bespoke curriculum
- Build trust and emotional safety by attuning to the YP's pace and preferences
- Use playful, non-directive methods to support learning and engagement
- Respect and support the YP's independence while remaining available to step in before overwhelm
- Avoid direct instructions
- Identify and anticipate sensory and emotional triggers
- Encourage initiation, allow time for processing, and offer flexible choices
- Promote emotional regulation through calm and consistent presence
- Interpret behaviour as communication, not opposition
- Be willing to accompany the YP to safe and familiar places that support well being and learning
- Work in the area of Westminster
Essential Qualities:
- Calm, emotionally regulated, and reflective
- Experience working with autistic children or children with complex SEN
- Understanding of or willingness to learn about PDA, sensory needs, and trauma-informed care
- Comfortable using indirect language and creative teaching approaches
- Able to work beside or slightly behind the child, not in a confrontational or authoritative position
Training & Support:
The successful applicant will be supported with relevant training, including a paid-for Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) course. You must be open to ongoing professional development and collaboration with the wider care and educational team.
