Primary School Teacher / General Subjects / KS2 Form Tutor

Principal Role

We are seeking a KS2 General Subjects Teacher and Form Tutor to join a passionate and dedicated team on a fixed term basis.

This fantastic school seek to employ highly professional teachers with the ability and commitment to enhance the life of an 'all through' school from Year 3 to Year 13, which has a strong academic ethos supported by outstanding pastoral care and a broad co-curricular programme.

The successful post holder will be responsible for teaching academic subjects across KS2 year groups, ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning. They will also be responsible for one class as Form Tutor, offering high quality pastoral care and a willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school.

Primary School Teacher Main Duties

The following list is not exhaustive but serves as an indication of what the role encompasses:

Academic Teaching

  • Teaching the core subjects of English and Maths to their form, as well as any other academic subjects to other classes according to timetable needs;
  • Establishing sound foundations of English, mathematical and, where appropriate, scientific and technological understanding, delivering the curriculum set by the College;
  • Inspiring a love of learning and of scholarship;
  • Preparing pupils for a smooth transition to the Senior School by establishing a positive work ethic, skill development, independence and resilience;
  • Overseeing the academic progress of pupils in their form, including administering assessments, analysing and utilising results;
  • Regular liaison with the Head of Learning Support to ensure that classroom teaching strategies and the learning environment are inclusive for all;
  • Attending and contributing to regular staff meetings and training sessions;
  • Utilising digital platforms appropriate for learning, resource sharing and record keeping;
  • Maintaining a stimulating classroom environment with evidence of pupils' work via displays and providing timely and appropriate feedback;

Pastoral Care

  • Overseeing the pastoral care of pupils in their form, working with Heads of Section and the Deputy Head Pastoral;
  • Providing opportunities for the development of leadership skills, co-operative tolerance, respect, kindness and compassion;
  • Reinforcing the high level of behaviour and deportment both at school and on school trips;
  • Communicating with parents regularly, appropriately and effectively;

Wider Contributions

  • Attending their Form's annual residential visit and other evening and Saturday events where required, including Open Mornings, Parents' Evenings, concerts, drama performances and other whole school events involving their Form;
  • Undertaking playground duties and contributing fully to the Junior School co-curricular programme;
  • Supporting the school in all major school events, including Open Days, Prize Giving and Taster Events;
  • Upholding the ethos of the school at all times;
  • Fulfilling personal requirements where appropriate with regard to school policies and procedures, including safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunities, pupil recruitment and promotion of the school's core values;
  • Carrying out any other reasonable requests, in line with the broad responsibilities of the role.

Person Specification

Suitable primary school teacher will have:

  • A passion for teaching and the ability to inspire others and lead by example, supporting the school to meet its aims with students, teachers and parents.
  • A genuine commitment to the wellbeing and pastoral care of children.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with students, teachers and parents.
  • Excellent administrative, organisational, and ICT skills.

The post holder will be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom they are responsible, or with whom they come into contact will be to adhere to and will ensure compliance with the School's Safeguarding Policy Statement at all times. If, in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School they must report any concerns to the School's Designated Safeguarding Lead.
