  • School Nurses

What a typical day might look like for the Primary Teacher:

  • Planning and delivering creative, differentiated lessons
  • Supporting pupils with highly individualised learning needs
  • Using sensory and communication strategies (e.g. PECS, Makaton)
  • Collaborating with support staff and therapists
  • Managing behaviour positively and proactively
  • Monitoring progress and adapting teaching accordingly
  • Communicating with families and external agencies
  • Creating a safe, inclusive, and joyful classroom environment

Key Responsibilities - Primary Teacher

Primary Teacher Learning and Teaching:

  • Plan and deliver personalised lessons using a primary model
  • Teach pupils according to their complex educational needs
  • Create a motivating and stimulating learning environment
  • Use effective communication systems tailored to each pupil
  • Integrate therapy programmes into holistic learning plans
  • Assess, record, and report on pupil progress
  • Set EHCP-linked targets and review individual plans regularly
  • Make effective use of Teaching Assistants and specialist resources
  • Promote equal opportunities and inclusive practice

As a Primary Teacher you will have Assessment, Recording and Reporting Responsibilities:

  • Input evidence of learning onto school systems
  • Analyse pupil progress and act on assessment data
  • Contribute to EHCP annual reviews and reports
  • Monitor and review individual learning plans

As a Primary Teacher you will have Learning, Support and Development Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils' personal development and wellbeing
  • Encourage independence and support personal care needs
  • Promote a positive learning culture
  • Liaise with families, staff, and external professionals
  • Monitor attendance and report concerns
  • Ensure a safe classroom environment
  • Participate in appraisal and lead at least one curriculum area
