The Science Teacher Job

This role is a permanent position with middle management responsibilities starting as soon as the right person is able to join the school. The Headteacher has been at pains to explain that they would rather wait for the right person rather than make a knee jerk appointment; even if that means holding out until the next academic year.

This is a second-tier middle leadership role and the successful candidate will have a key role in developing an innovative curriculum. The school is currently developing and extending its curriculum to make it truly bespoke and reflective of individual pupil's needs and the school's drive to ensure that all their young people leave school with key skills for life. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and promoting this vision within the Science and Technology Department.

If you are an established teacher who is seeking a new and exciting opportunity with SEN pupils, have real interest in Science and want to develop your leadership skills then this could be a perfect opportunity for you!

The School

My Hillingdon client is a large Special Needs school for secondary aged school pupils aged from 11 to 19. The school caters to students with Autism, Moderate and Complex Needs it currently supports around 250 pupils. The school's success was highlighted in its last Ofsted Report (Good with Outstanding Features). The school will be undertaking a large rebuild over the next few years and you will benefit from brand new top of the range facilities.

All pupils have Learning Difficulties and many pupils have additional complex needs. This fantastic Hillingdon SEN school is currently developing a 'pathways' model to offer a more bespoke curriculum to learners. At the core our vision for the school is the desire to ensure that all pupils develop the skills for life that enable them to become employable, productive and independent members of society. This vision drives the curriculum and wider school development plans.

The school ethos is to ensure that all pupils thrive in a safe and secure learning environment. Many pupils are on the autistic spectrum and have associated sensory and communication needs as a result the school has its own therapy team including Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and a Physiotherapist. As a school they are developing better ways to support our pupils to access learning by embedding a therapeutic approach to aspects of teaching and learning across the school. We believe that every learner's needs are central to their model of teaching and that every pupil shapes a lesson.
