The Science Teacher Post

A post has arisen for a full time permanent post teaching Science (Chemistry/Physics) in a friendly, supportive and heavily oversubscribed independent Special Needs school in the London borough of Camden. This new Camden school are seeking to appoint a specialist Science teacher who is comfortable delivering GCSE Chemistry and Physics to small groups (no more than 5 pupils per class).

The School

The school supports the needs of just 35 pupils aged between 11 and 16 with moderate learning difficulties. The school is part of a wider group of 3 schools (soon to be expanded to 7) with other campuses in North London and the home counties. The school was judged 'Good' in all aspects by Ofsted in a recent inspection and the SLT pride themselves in providing a supportive environment for teaching and learning where staff feel valued, well trained and given the opportunities to advance in their career.

The school is in Russell Square and they provide for Secondary aged pupils with very moderate/mild learning difficulties and are seeking to appoint a Science teacher (Chemistry and/or Physics) on a permanent contract.

The Science Teacher Role
The pupils will be being taught up to entry level and GCSE Science and will benefit from small class sizes (no more than 5 pupils), many will have TA support. Behavioural issues are unheard of, these pupils are also broadly in line with national expectation levels but their parents have pushed for a smaller environment at EHCP meetings.

As part of this role you will undertake the full responsibilities of the class teacher and will demonstrate commitment to the school including staff meetings, parents evenings, responsibility for pupil progress, planning for diverse needs and abilities and managing behaviour that may challenge.

The Ideal Science Teacher Applicant

We are looking for excellent teaching ability and a reflective practitioner with the ability to work with EHCPs, devise and review lesson plans for individuals to ensure that they can access the curriculum and flourish. A consistent approach, adaptable teaching style, patient, self-aware approach, an engaging personality and a good sense of humour would be advantageous. Teachers from mainstream secondary schools with a Science and Maths background will be ideal for this role, MLD experience is not important as these students would normally be in mainstream schools with some in class support where necessary.

I am looking for candidates who would like to find a home for themselves for the foreseeable future who are happy teaching Chemistry and/or Physics up to GCSE level

Benefits

Obviously the school's location in the heart of the West end benefits from amazing transport links as well as lots of great amenities. They have first class facilities and the school is the third in the group, both its sister schools have received outstanding reports from The Independent Schools Inspectorate. Furthermore as the school is small you will have significantly more none contact time than you would in any other school.
