The School:

A school I work with in the Lambeth area, which provides education for pupils from the ages of 11-19 years old with Autism and Moderate Learning Difficulties. The school is a day school taking students from Lambeth and other surrounding local authorities. All students must have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan that refers to a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, students' diagnosis may include Asperger's or High Functioning Autism. In addition to their diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder students may also have additional needs, for example obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Students may also have associated needs in the areas of emotional, social and communication and interaction development and/or psychological or mental health difficulties. In addition, students may have sensory, or physical/motor difficulties.

Students benefit from provision that opens up the depth and breadth of the full mainstream curriculum while recognising that some children need the additional support of our school to manage anxiety arising from their autism, sensory, social and communication difficulties are unable to manage a mainstream school environment.

Students receive high levels of targeted intervention and differentiation throughout the school day helping them gain a range of qualifications, including GCSEs, A-levels and vocational qualifications. The curriculum promotes the intellectual, personal, social and physical development of all students. The curriculum takes account of students' differing abilities, experiences and profile in order to provide all students with both challenge and opportunity.

The curriculum is sufficiently flexible to facilitate some students accessing learning at partner mainstream schools where appropriate. The focus of the curriculum is supporting young people to make a successful transition into adulthood as confident young people with the necessary skills to live independently, gain paid employment and participate in their local community.

The school is seeking either an experienced SEN school Science teacher or a excellent mainstream Science specialist with the interest, passion and desire to transition to working in a special school environment. The successful applicant to this outstanding Lambeth school will be working ina dynamic and positive environment. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team which will include the SLT, other teachers, your team of SEN TAs, Therapists (Speech and Language, Occupational, Music, Drama etc.)
