SEN TA for Autism - East London

  • SEN (ASD) Teaching Assistant
  • SEN School
  • 'Outstanding' Ofsted
  • East London
  • £70-80 per day

We are currently working with a Special Educational Needs school in East London. They are currently looking to recruit several teaching assistants to start in September 2020 for a full time and long term position, who has experience working within SEN, specifically autism. The role will run from September 2020 to July 2021, to be extended from there.

The School

The school caters for primary and secondary aged students who have Autism and Asperger's syndrome. The school is very well managed and is rated as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted, but it does have its challenges due to the range of the needs of the students, including some challenging behaviour, making this a physically and mentally challenging role. The school is within walking distance of 2 London Overground Stations, a mainline train Station and is on numerous popular bus routes. You will be expected to work within a small class usually numbering between 4 to 5 students. Each class has a teacher and 2 to 3 teaching assistants, enabling all pupils to receive the appropriate amount of care and support. This school also tries to take committed staff on permanent contracts within 6-9 months and there can be teacher training opportunities further along the line if you do well there.

Key skills and experience needed:

  • SEN experience is essential, preferably with young people with autism / ASD or Asperger's syndrome
  • Previous support work within a school or other child related experience
  • Strong behaviour management
  • One to one and small group work
  • Professional manner
  • Enthusiastic, positive and friendly approach

Why you should apply?

The role provides you with a great opportunity to join a successful and well-resourced School. The school is also located within a short walk from the tube station. The school offers excellent teaching staff and leadership support at all times. The School offer continuous training on new and innovative teaching strategies to SEN to all their staff including free accredited courses available for agency staff and permanent staff. If you are looking to start as a SEN TA and work with a family like atmosphere, support the children and provide them with that extra pastoral care, then this is the role for you.
