A successful and Ofsted rated Outstanding SEN School in Lewisham have a vacancy for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant to work across the Primary key stages.

The School:

The School caters for students with Special Needs aged 4 - 11 years with access to education through a highly differentiated curriculum, intervention and support. Students at this School have various needs including Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties with many students having Multisensory Learning Difficulties. A large majority of the pupils are non-verbal.

The setup of the classes are small class sizes of around 6 -7 children with a Teacher and multiple support staff. It is imperative that class teams work well together to give the best education to each individual child. The staff are passionate individuals who work collaboratively to offer the best and most flexible teaching methods for their students. They understand that each and every student comes with a different set of challenges and only after careful planning and building relationships with these pupils will they see progress and success with students hitting relevant targets in their learning and social development. It is for this reason that you must also be confident working independently with a child as you may also be required to give one-to-one support within your class.

Staff development and training in something which has developed significantly in the past year at this School, giving staff the confidence to develop their skills and be rewarded.

The role:

As a Classroom Assistant you will be required to support the Class Teacher in delivering tailored education programmes. You will be a calm and resilient personality, able to remain calm in stressful situations and deescalate challenging behaviour. You must have a sound understanding of Special Needs and various strategies to support this, for example, PECS, Makaton, TAC PAC, Visual Timetables, Sensory Storytelling..
