  • Tower Hamlets School
  • Key Stage 2 Complex Needs Class
  • SEN Teacher Role
  • 8 Pupils and 2 full time TAs

  • 12 month maternity contract

A vacancy has arisen for an SEN teacher to join a high achieving, friendly and successful SEN school in Tower Hamlets from Easter. This SEN teacher role has come up as a member of staff has had a travel visa application accepted and will be taking a sabbatical to undertake charity aid work overseas. As a result the school are seeking an SEN teacher to take on one of their KS2 complex needs classes for a 12 month maternity contract.

The school is based in Tower Hamlets East London and has incredible transport links to East, Central, South East West London and Essex .

The school is for students from Tower Hamlets and the surrounding boroughs with a wide range of complex needs. The building comprises of ten classrooms, a therapy room, a multi-sensory room, a sensory garden and playground and a hall which doubles as a gym. The school has 2 minibuses which are used regularly for educational visits and school journeys.

The Headteacher is a realistic leader who understands the demands placed on the teachers and works to ensure that the resources, training, support and infrastructure are all in place.

The class consists of 8 pupils with a range of complex needs including autism, SLD, down syndrome, global developmental delay. The pupils attainment levels approximately commensurate the old national curriculum level 1. As a result experience working in either complex needs or teaching the reception/Y1 national curriculum would be advantageous. Behaviour in class and across the school in general is very good and the two full time TAs will be a fantastic help and resource in class class. Most of the pupils in class are verbal but some Makaton and PECs usage will occur in class to support learning.

The ideal teacher will be able to plan, deliver and assess lessons that focus on a sensory curriculum, have good behaviour and classroom management skills, have a proven track record as a "good" teacher and bring passion and commitment to their job.

This is a wonderful opportunity to join a forward thinking, supportive and successful school.
