The Job

I am seeking to appoint an excellent experienced SEN Teacher to an outstanding SEN school (OfSTED 2017) for pupils from 3-16 years old with autism based in Wandsworth. The school has three sites EYFS (where you would be based), Primary and Secondary. The pupils benefit from excellent staffing ratios, small class sizes and a highly personalised approach to learning. I am seeking to appoint an EYFS class SEN teacher, ideally from January 2020 to join their expanding team. The class consists of 8 pupils in a mixed nursery and reception class which has been grouped together based on their ability levels. All of the children have been identified as having low social and communication skills and have been diagnosed with autism or other complex cognitive needs. The class is supported by 4 full time TAs and there are clear strategies in place for each of the children. Due to this complexity and challenge the school are seeking to appoint an experience practitioner who has at least 2 years recent EYFS experience teaching in the UK. Applicants from mainstream schools are encouraged to apply as a fully comprehensive induction and SEN training scheme will be in place although those with experience delivering to children with the same needs and challenges may find the initial transition period easier.

The School

This Wandsworth school offers state of the art purpose built facilities accessible to all student. These include:

  • Hydrotherapy pool with sensory environment.
  • Soft Play room.
  • A Sensory room.
  • Specially equipped playground.
  • Two minibuses for use in the community.

The Ideal Applicant

A background teaching EYFS aged pupils with complex ASD and low communication skills (PECS & Makaton) would be beneficial although it certainly is not considered to be vital. A proven track record for good or outstanding EYFS teaching is required. The school are happy for applications from those with recent experience in a UK SEN environment including Overseas Trained Teachers (OTTs) either with QTS or with the possibility of obtaining QTS in the next 6-12 months. All applicants will be subject to full vetting, referencing and compliance procedures and must either hold an online update registered DBS or be willing to apply for one straight away

Please note that good standards of written and spoken English are required.

Interviews to be arranged ASAP!
