The role will be as a SEN teacher in an ASD resource base with children that have a mixture of needs, SALT, ASD, ADHD. The class consists of 16 children in year group 4, 5, and 6. Most of the children access the teaching in the resource base all morning and many attend their mainstream classes with some adult support. The afternoons are run by the TA's so the ideal teacher will go to the EYFS resource base class in the afternoons.
As this group is a mixture of 4,5 and 6, the class is split into two groups. 1 group is led by a teaching assistant teaching basic writing, reading and maths skills alongside the year 2 curriculum. The ideal candidate will need to help support this TA in medium term planning and assessment. The teacher will teach in the other group of children accessing Lower KS2 learning. There is a total of 3 support staff in addition to the teacher.
The class has a range of needs, so we wouldn't expect the teacher to take lead on the class immediately but dependent on their skills and competence we would transition this over a few weeks. A lot of the children have attachment needs, so they would need time to transition to a new teacher/adult. Even though this is a complex role, the individual will have the support of the outstanding SEND teachers and teaching assistants in the resource base.
