SEN Teaching Assistant

A small primary school in Lewisham is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis starting in September. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the education and wellbeing of children with special educational needs, particularly ADHD and autism.

As a Full-Time SEN Teaching Assistant, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting children with ADHD and autism in their academic and social development. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and tailor teaching strategies to meet the specific needs of each child. This may involve providing one-on-one support, adapting materials and resources, and implementing behavioural management techniques to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

The ideal candidate for this role will have previous experience working as a SEN Teaching Assistant, preferably with a focus on supporting children with ADHD and autism. You will have a good understanding of the unique challenges and strengths associated with these conditions, as well as the ability to implement effective strategies to support learning and emotional well-being. Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills are essential for building positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.

This is a full-time position with a permanent contract, offering a competitive salary and benefits package.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a SEN Teaching Assistant, ideally with a focus on supporting children with ADHD and autism.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the challenges and strengths associated with ADHD and autism.
  • Ability to implement effective strategies and interventions to support learning and emotional well-being.
  • Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and other staff members.
  • A commitment to providing inclusive and personalized support for children with special educational needs.
