A supportive and inclusive primary school in the London Borough of Islington is seeking a committed and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Key Stage 2 pupil with SEMH needs, including anxiety and emotional regulation challenges. This is a long-term position for the remainder of the academic year, starting as soon as possible.
The Role:
Provide consistent 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Support the pupil in managing anxiety, building resilience and developing coping strategies.
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo and external professionals to implement tailored support plans.
Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil's individual needs and encourage engagement.
Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.
Help create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate:
Experience supporting children with SEMH, anxiety, or behavioural needs (school-based experience desirable).
Calm, patient and resilient with a nurturing approach.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Understanding of behaviour management strategies and trauma-informed practice.
Reliable and able to commit to a long-term role starting ASAP.
Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, Teaching Assistant qualification, Psychology graduate) are desirable but not essential.
