SEN Teaching Assistant - Year 6 (1:1 Support)
Independent School | SW10
Start: Mid-February / Early Start Available for Handover
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a delightful Year 6 pupil, currently attending a local Independent School. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to work closely with a child and her family in a supportive, well-resourced environment.
The Role
Full-time: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm (potentially 3:30pm finishes)
Tuesdays & Thursdays are shorter days within school as you will support activities at home
Occasional later finishes (up to 6pm) for school events such as fairs
Position available from mid-February, with an earlier start for handover preferred
Role expected to continue until summer holidays or until a suitable long-term school placement is found (30 days' notice if circumstances change)
You will:
Support the child exclusively (1:1) - no shared responsibilities
Accompany her from home in SW10, arriving at 8:00am, and travel with parents, a governor, or via cab service to school
Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO
Follow a normal school timetable and provide tailored academic and pastoral support
About the child:
Has an EHCP in place
Thrives in a mainstream independent school setting
Is wheelchair user with no lower body movement, though she is strong and mobile in her own way
Requires a TA who is physically fit and confident with wheelchairs, including occasional lifting
Is incontinent and requires support with nappy changes (approximately 1-2 times during the school day)
Has a spinal curvature requiring awareness and care
The Ideal Candidate
Experienced SEN TA with confidence supporting physical needs and learning delay
Comfortable with personal care and mobility support
Patient, calm, nurturing and emotionally attuned
Able to work sensitively with trauma-informed approaches
Happy working within a private household and school setting
French or Spanish speaking would be a bonus
Must be an animal lover - the family home has many dogs and cats
The Environment
Supportive private household with full staff
Strong, collaborative relationship with school
Family is organised, communicative and values consistency
Competitive salary offered (invoice payment welcomed)
Important
School requires this child to have a TA in place to continue attending, so reliability and commitment are essential.
If you are a warm, capable SEN professional looking for a deeply rewarding 1:1 role with a truly special child, we would love to hear from you.
