Based in Sunbury-on-Thames the school is seeking to appoint an inspirational and dedicated Teacher of Design and Technology to join their DT department from September 2022 on a full-time basis.

The Job - Teacher of Design & Technology - Secondary School - Surrey

Applications are welcome from both experienced and early career Design and Technology Teachers who can teach across the ability range and across Key Stage 3 and 4. The Department - Teacher of Design & Technology - Secondary School - Surrey

The school's curriculum aims to fulfil the requirements of the National curriculum through a range of practical and theoretical/design tasks. They are fortunate that all students at KS3 have one hour a week of DT and one hour a week of food and this is throughout each year group. This allows them to experience many different skills and opportunities and give them a good insight into the subjects before deciding to choose their GCSE options. At KS4, the school follow AQA for Food and Nutrition and Design & Technology and the skills they have learnt at KS3 help to underpin the GCSE course. The GCSE courses have 5 lessons over a 2- week timetable and follow the exam board specifications. In addition, Child Development OCR Cambridge National is also offered at KS4.

The DT department has 2 well-equipped workshops and 2 classrooms with computers. They encourage all students to strive to do their best in every lesson and encourage a love of learning. Students enjoy the subjects and see it as a practical subject where they can be creative and as a result all subjects are popular at GCSE. Some practical work is done by using the laser cutter and along with 2D design produces innovative practical work. They also do projects including pewter casting, using the brazing hearth, dip-coating and vacuum forming. Wood is the main material of choice.
