SEN Teaching Assistant - ASD

We are currently looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join this good-outstanding SEN School in Hillingdon. The school caters for students aged 4-11 with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and complex needs.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you would be working in a key stage 2 class of around 8 students, assisting the class teacher alongside 2 other SEN TAs. Each classroom at this SEN school employs TEACCH principles, and so experience would be advantageous. The successful SEN TA would be assisting in a range of subjects including English, Maths, Science, Technology, PSHE and Art. Due to the needs of the children, these lessons are planned to be imaginative, exciting and challenging.

Each student at this Hillingdon SEN school has an individual learning plan you would be required to monitor and update. Communication and organisational skills are essential as you would need to be able to work effectively with teachers, senior leadership, therapists and parents. You would be promoting social skills, independence, communication and behaviour throughout the school and so you should be positive and supportive in order to make the students feel safe

This school is looking for an SEN TA with experience in working with children with similar needs. You would be expected to undertake personal care of students (feeding, changing, toileting) and the school will train you in the appropriate practice. Experience in using communication tools such as PECS and Makaton would be advantageous however the school offers a range of training and CPD opportunities to all staff in order to accommodate the childrens' needs.
