As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in assisting the class teacher in creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for students with PMLD. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-on-one support to students with PMLD, helping them to access the curriculum and participate in classroom activities.
- Assisting with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and mobility support, ensuring the students' comfort and well-being.
- Collaborating closely with the class teacher to implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and differentiated learning strategies.
- Supporting students in developing their communication skills, utilising alternative communication methods such as sign language or visual aids.
- Encouraging and promoting independence and self-esteem among students, fostering a sense of achievement and confidence.
- Assisting in the preparation and adaptation of learning materials and resources to meet the diverse needs of students with PMLD.
- Monitoring and recording students' progress and behaviour, providing feedback to the class teacher to inform future planning.
- Establishing positive relationships with students, building trust and rapport to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Collaborating with other professionals, including therapists and support staff, to ensure a holistic approach to students' development.
- Promoting inclusion and celebrating diversity within the classroom, fostering an atmosphere of acceptance and respect.
