About the SEN Teaching Assistant (Autism Specialist) Role:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant (Autism Specialist), you will provide targeted one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with Autism. You will reinforce clear routines, structured learning, and behaviour frameworks to ensure pupils remain focused and supported throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities as SEN Teaching Assistant (Autism Specialist):

  • Targeted Autism Support: Deliver structured one-to-one and small-group interventions tailored to individual EHCP targets.
  • Routine & Structure: Maintain clear boundaries, visual schedules, and consistent classroom expectations.
  • Behaviour & Regulation: Apply firm, calm strategies to support emotional regulation and focus.
  • Progress Monitoring: Record academic, behavioural, and social development accurately.
  • Professional Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, SENCO, behaviour teams, and external specialists.

To succeed as an SEN Teaching Assistant (Autism Specialist), you will need:

  • Proven experience supporting pupils with Autism in SEN or specialist settings.
  • Strong presence with clear, direct communication.
  • Confidence managing behaviour through consistency and structured support.
  • Understanding of EHCPs, sensory strategies, and autism-specific interventions.
  • A proactive, organised, and resilient approach.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply through Reeson Education.
