Reeson Education is working in partnership with a Hampshire local authority maintained special school that supports children and young people aged 2-19 with severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties.

Many pupils have co-existing conditions such as Autism, Down Syndrome, and physical disabilities. The school operates across two sites-one for Primary and one for Secondary.

As a Teaching Assistant (TA) in this setting, you will:

  • Support pupils with severe and complex learning difficulties
  • Assist with personal care, feeding, and mobility where required
  • Implement structured routines and behaviour support strategies
  • Use communication aids, sensory resources, and visual timetables
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals
  • Help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment
  • Encourage independence and celebrate small steps of progress

What a typical day might look like:

  • Supporting pupils during morning arrival and settling routines
  • Assisting with communication and sensory activities
  • Helping deliver tailored lessons and interventions
  • Supporting pupils during break and lunch times
  • Using visual aids and structured prompts to guide learning
  • Assisting with personal care and physical support where needed
  • Recording pupil progress and sharing feedback with the team
