Our SEMH school in Wakefield supports children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, often with complex behavioural profiles and trauma-informed backgrounds. As Behaviour Lead, you will take a key leadership role in shaping, implementing, and reviewing behaviour policies while mentoring staff and delivering targeted interventions for pupils.
The Role:
As the Behaviour Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing behaviour provision across the school and ensuring high-quality support for students with SEMH needs. Your key duties will include:
- Behaviour Leadership: Lead on the development, implementation, and monitoring of whole-school behaviour policies and SEMH strategies.
- Staff Support & Training: Coach, mentor, and guide staff in behaviour management, de-escalation techniques, and trauma-informed practices.
- Targeted Intervention: Coordinate and deliver personalised behavioural and emotional interventions to support pupils with complex SEMH needs.
- Crisis Management: Lead on behaviour incidents, ensure effective de-escalation, and model best practice during high-pressure situations.
- Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work closely with senior leaders, parents/carers, therapists, and external agencies to create consistent, joined-up support for students.
- Team Teach: Team Teach training or similar is desirable. Free Team Teach training will be provided for successful candidates without certification.
Requirements:
* Previous experience as a Behaviour Lead, Pastoral Lead, Assistant SENCO, Senior Behaviour Mentor, or similar leadership role within SEMH, PRU, or alternative provision.
* Strong understanding of SEMH, trauma-informed practice, and behaviour management in specialist settings.
* Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
* Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused during challenging situations.
* A passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable young people and supporting staff development.
