SEN Teacher

I am seeking to appoint a specialist PMLD SEN Teacher for a highly successful SEN school (Outstanding OfSTED) based in the South London.

  • Secondary SEN Teacher
  • PMLD/SLD KS3 Class
  • South London
  • Immediate Start
  • Potential Perm Sept 2020
  • Pay £170 - £220 per day

THE SEN TEACHER JOB

I require a motivated, skilled and resilient class based SEN teacher with experience of working in an SLD or PMLD environment or a strong interest in teaching children with complex needs and a track record as an outstanding teacher in a mainstream environment (preferably EYFS or KS1).

You will be teaching a class of 8 pupils with very complex learning needs, many of whom have additional medical needs. These students are developmentally working below or in line with low P Levels (1-3), have very little or no communication skills and are wheelchair bound. You will be teaching a sensory and very creative curriculum with based around four main pilars, Communication, Cognition, Independence skills and Physical Development.

The role would be ideal for an experienced PMLD SEN Teacher but would also suit an experienced SEN teacher from an ASD/SLD background.

THE SCHOOL

This excellent South London SEN school provides an outstanding level of care and education for young people aged 11 to 19 who have a range of needs including profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD) and complex autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).

The school is well served by public transport with excellent rail, tube and bus services making commuting accessible from almost anywhere in zones 1-4. It provides an environment where young people are offered safe, secure and predictable surroundings in which they can build the skills to interact with the outside world.

You will join a supportive and experienced team of dedicated education and support staff. Full training and development will be provided along with a bespoke induction programme.

THE IDEAL APPLICANT

With the support of colleagues, you will develop the skills, confidence and experience to deal with the challenging needs that the students have. You will be supported by a highly dedicated and experienced team of LSAs in class who will help you hit the ground running due to their training and in depth knowledge of the pupils. This role may involve some personal care. Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and emotional resilience are essential attributes. As Class Teacher, you will direct and mentor classroom support staff.

The chosen candidate will demonstrate energy, enthusiasm and the ability to teach a sensory curriculum effectively. You may have experience of supporting young people with severe learning difficulties or PMLD but whilst not essential it would be highly preferable. You will have a flexible approach and will be able to meet the changing needs of our young people.

Experience of working in a SEN environment is desirable, along with knowledge of working with SLD and PMLD needs.

You will join a supportive and experienced team of dedicated education and support staff. Full training and development will be provided along with a bespoke induction programme.
