Primary SEN Teacher - ASD

  • Brent, London
  • Maternity Contract, full-time
  • ASD/SLD Class
  • Small class size of 5 pupils with 3 supportive TAs
  • Outstanding OfSTED School
  • Excellent Transport Links on Jubilee/Northern Lines
  • New school building
  • Potential permanent contract

A well-resourced Outstanding (OfSTED) SEN school in the London Borough of Brent in North West London that caters for Primary children with Autism is seeking to appoint a Primary SEN Teacher from Easter on a 1 year maternity cover contract. The school will be opening two additional classes in September 2019 and as a result an offer of a permanent job for September is very high providing performance meets expectations.

This Brent funded SEN school has excellent transport links making it easily commutable for most of zones 1-2. The school has strong links with the local community, including training connections with a number of mainstream schools. This allows it to enrich its curriculum by welcoming groups and individuals to the school and taking children on an education trip each term and a biannual trip to the seaside.

The class itself consists of 5 pupils (mixed KS1/2), which is one of the higher achieving groups within the school - mainly ASD with some SLD needs. In class you will have the support of three to four outstanding, friendly, and hardworking TAs full-time in class. Classes are well-resourced and staff are encouraged to immerse themselves in the positive and highly rewarding ethos fostered by the bright, energetic and youthful staff and Senior Leadership Team.

The appointed SEN Teacher will therefore have an incredibly supportive and well-equipped team of TAs, as well a professional and well-experienced team committed to providing individualised learning, support and opportunities for pupils with ASD

The school has an excellent reputation in training for communication strategies, writing programmes, and Makaton courses for its staff, as well as Team-Teach, TEACCH and First Aid. All teaching and support staff are trained in Makaton and PECS symbols are also used creatively to develop communication; experience in these areas is therefore essential. However, the school allows for plenty of opportunity for professional and personal development.
