SEN Teacher Job

I am seeking to appoint a specialist SLD teacher for a highly successful SEN school based in the London borough of Richmond. The school provides an outstanding level of care and education for young people aged 3 to 11 who have a range of needs including severe learning difficulties (SLD) and complex autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).

With the support of colleagues, you will develop the skills, confidence and experience to deal with the challenging needs that the students have. You will be supported by a highly dedicated and experienced team of LSAs in class who will help you hit the ground running due to their training and in depth knowledge of the pupils. This role may involve some personal care. Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and emotional resilience are essential attributes. As Class Teacher, you will direct and mentor classroom support staff.

You will join a supportive and experienced team of dedicated education and support staff. Full training and development will be provided along with a bespoke induction programme.

The SEN School

The school is well served by public transport with excellent rail, overground and bus services making commuting accessible from almost anywhere in central and west London. It provides an environment where young people are offered safe, secure and predictable surroundings in which they can build the skills to interact with the outside world.

The Ideal SEN Teacher

I require a motivated, skilled and resilient class teacher with experience of working in an SLD or ASD environment or a strong interest in teaching children with complex needs and a track record as an outstanding teacher in a mainstream environment (preferably EYFS or KS1).

The role may suit a primary qualified teacher, or someone who has gained significant experience of working in a lower school environment. The school have also had great success with overseas trained teachers from America, Australia, Canada and South Africa and are open to overseas trained teachers with some specialist SEN knowledge. The chosen candidate will demonstrate energy, enthusiasm and the ability to teach effectively across a range of subject areas. You may have experience of teaching/supporting young people with severe learning difficulties but this will not be essential. You will have a flexible approach and will be able to meet the changing needs of our young people.

Experience of working in a SEN environment is desirable, along with knowledge of working with SLD and complex needs .
