We are currently looking for a qualified and experienced SEN Teacher to join this good-outstanding SEN School in Southwark. The school caters for students aged 2-19 with Autism (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Visual Impairment (VI), Multi-Sensory Impairments (MSI) and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD).

This SEN school is located only a short distance from Bermondsey station and within a short walk from the highstreet and a number of bus stops, making it easily accessible by public transport. The SEN school has benefited from new leadership who have improved standards from Good to being observed by Ofsted last year as Outstanding. Leadership at the school are determined but approacchable, with an open door policy for all teachers and the best interests of students in mind. It is trully a great place to work!

The Role

You would be leading an SLD / MSI primary class of up to 8 students with the aid of at least 2 TAs. The successful SEN Teacher would need to be able to plan and deliver lessons differentiated to meet the needs of individual students. Children at this level would be working at P levels 1-8.

Due to the needs of the children, the curriculum would focus on communication, social relationships and emotional development, conceptual development and sensory responses. Student's achievement is measured regularly against 3 profiles, with emphasis on individual progress and not specific grades.

The Candidate

As an SEN Teacher, you would be using a range of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems including Makaton Signing, On Body Signing, Coactive Signing, PODD Communication Books, PECS and a number of hi-tech voice output technologies (GoTalks, iPads, Proxtalker). Experience in working with these communication aids would be advantageous however the school provides an intensive induction programme to all new staff.

In addition to this regular in-house training, the school has provided many teaching staff with continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities and prospects of completing a post graduate qualification in VI or MSI.

You must have excellent communication and team work skills as you would be required to work with support staff, therapists, parents and carers. To be eligible for this position, you must have QTS and experience in teaching children with similar needs.
