The Job

We are currently looking for an experienced and qualified teacher to join this Outstanding SEN School in Southwark. The school caters for students aged 2-19 with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Disabilities (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). In addition, some students at this school may exhibit challenging behaviour and have sensory impairments or physical disabilities. The school is based in the central London borough of Southwark although students come from all over London. The class sizes in this small school are not large and are very manageable (6-8 pupils) as well as being well resourced in terms of both equipment and staffing ratios (2-3 TAs).

As an SEN Teacher, you would be planning and delivering lessons, differentiated to meet the individual needs of the children. The curriculum you would be delivering is aimed to provide an inclusive, supportive and challenging environment for the children and encourage them to actively participate in their learning. You would be teaching a range of subjects based on a primary model including Numeracy, Literacy, ICT, PSHE and PE at P levels 3-through to national curriculum Level 2A-2C.

The School

This SEN School boasts a number of specialist facilities on site including a multi-sensory room, soft play room, therapy pool, gym and playground. It was purpose built by the local authority a few years ago and the thought put into the design really shows as all space is used effectively and resources are user friendly. Situated only a short walk from rail and underground stations and a number of bus stops; public transport links are excellent making it easily accessible for most of zones 1-3. This is a highly regarded special needs school with a great ethos and a welcoming and supportive team.

Having worked with this school for a number of years I can personally say that they have a fantastic track record supporting new staff whether that is mainstream teachers transitioning into an SEN environment or experienced SEN teachers settling into a new team.

The Applicant

Due to the needs of the children, this SEN school is looking for an SEN Teacher with experience in working with children with similar needs. Experience in planning differentiated lessons and marking students work is essential. Each child has an individual learning plan you would be expected to write, monitor and discuss with therapists, parents and senior leadership.

This amazing and forward thinking SEN school trains all staff in Team Teach in order to manage behaviour and a number of communication aids including PECS and Makaton.
