Job Title: SEN Teacher

  • Location - Lewisham
  • Primary Key Stage 1 and 2
  • SLD and Autism
  • Outstanding SEN School
  • Starting January
  • Ongoing contract

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced SEN Teacher to join a driven and successful team at this highly sought after SEN School!

This School is based in Lewisham with excellent transport links via the DLR and Thameslink.

The School caters for students aged 4-11 years with SLD, Autism and PMLD. It is a well-equipped and resourced School which has been commended for the outstanding learning it provides to students who are on various levels of the spectrum. The School benefits from Sensory Rooms and Therapy Pool as well as vast outdoor space which is excellent for central London. Classes are small with only up to 6 pupils so SEN Teachers are able to deliver specific and tailored learning to students. Children at this School have excellent behaviour and there is a strong link to parents and community which helps to ensure pupils reach their potential. A small proportion of pupils go on to mainstream Secondary Schools while others are smoothly transitioned to a partner Secondary SEN School.

The most recent Ofsted for this School rated the excellent facilities and 'highly collaborative' environment that the staff have created and work in and they are proud to hold an OUTSTANDING rating.

The Chosen SEN Teacher

As an SEN Teacher for SLD and Autism, you would be using a range of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems including Makaton Signing, On Body Signing, Coactive Signing, PODD Communication Books, PECS and a number of hi-tech voice output technologies (GoTalks, iPads, Proxtalker). Experience in working with these communication aids would be advantageous however the school provides an intensive induction programme to all new staff.

The successful SEN Teacher would need to be able to plan and deliver lessons differentiated to meet the needs of individual students. Children at this level would be working at P levels 1-8.

The Head Teacher is seeking a creative SEN Teacher who is able to adapt and work as part of a team to provide the highest level of education and care to their pupils!

If you are a committed and passionate SEN Teacher for SLD and Autism and you feel this opportunity could be right for you then please apply now to be considered!
