An inclusive and forward-thinking mainstream primary school in the Wandsworth Borough is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and skilled SEN Teacher to join their team from September. This exciting opportunity is to lead a Key Stage 2 class within the school's specialist Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Resource Base, which supports a small group of pupils with diagnosed ASC who benefit from a quieter, more structured learning environment.
This is a full-time, long-term role, with the strong potential to become permanent for the right individual. The base operates as an integral part of the wider school, with strong inclusion practices and opportunities for pupils to access mainstream learning as appropriate.
About the Role:
Teaching a small class of KS2 pupils with a range of autism-related needs, including communication difficulties, sensory processing differences, and social-emotional regulation challenges
Leading a team of experienced and skilled support staff, including TAs and 1:1s
Developing and delivering highly differentiated, engaging, and meaningful lessons
Collaborating with the SENCO, therapists, external professionals, and families to create personalised learning plans (EHCPs)
Ensuring a nurturing and structured learning environment that promotes independence, confidence, and emotional well-being
Contributing to whole-school inclusion and sharing expertise with the wider staff team
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - ECTs with relevant SEN experience welcome to apply
Proven experience of teaching children with autism and/or complex SEN, ideally in a primary or specialist setting
A solid understanding of the KS2 curriculum and how to adapt it for children with additional needs
Excellent behaviour management strategies and a calm, empathetic approach
A passion for inclusive education and the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with children and families
Knowledge of relevant SEN strategies and a commitment to professional development
What the School Offers:
A purpose-built, well-resourced ASD base with a focus on structure, routine, and communication
Supportive and experienced SLT and SEN team who value staff well-being and collaboration
Opportunities for CPD, including ASC-specific training and career progression
Strong partnerships with outside agencies, therapists, and parents
A culture of inclusion, kindness, and high expectations
This is a rewarding role for a teacher who is looking to make a genuine difference in the lives of pupils with autism. Whether you're an experienced SEN teacher or a primary teacher with a deep interest in autism education, this Wandsworth school will support your journey.
