The SEN Teaching Assistant Job

I am seeking to appoint a dynamic, energetic, flexible and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to a small independent Special Educational Needs school on the Barnet/Haringey border. The school specialises in meeting the needs of children with high functioning Autism and Asperger's, Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties and Specific Learning Difficulties.

As the successful SEN Teaching Assistant you will join a small, warm and friendly team due to an increase in their student numbers. Your role will be to support teachers with classroom practice and pupils in their academic, social and emotional learning. You will be committed to providing the best opportunities for our rewarding but sometimes challenging group of learners and ensuring every child is supported to achieve their full potential.

The SEN School

This split site Barnet special needs school is based across two campuses in North Finchley and Muswell Hill. The Lower School site is conveniently situated directly opposite Woodside Park station on the Northern Line. The Upper School has just opened in September at a lovely site in Muswell Hill.

The school is part of a group of educational independent day and boarding schools. They liaise and work closely with the other schools in the group, have extensive community links and believe in 'thinking differently' and being as creative as possible in its approach to teaching and pastoral duties.

The Ideal SEN Teaching Assistant

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes

  • A flexible approach
  • A sense of humour
  • Reliability, punctuality, stamina, resilience
  • The ability to work under pressure are essential.
