VB/ABA Teaching Assistant Job
If you are an aspiring teacher seeking to get the best possible experience before starting a PGCE or an ABA Teaching Assistant with a proven track record we welcome you to apply to join a fantastic small special school in Brent. This that looks after its staff and makes inspirational progress with its pupils. The school is for children ages 4-11 with a Statement of SEN or Education for Autism and Severe Learning Difficulties. These children specifically will have significant barriers to communication and will be either none verbal or have limited speech.
What is VB/ABA?
VB stands for Verbal Behaviours and ABA stands for Applied Behaviour Analysis - Verbal Behaviour (VB) therapy teaches communication and language. It is based on the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis and the theories of behaviourist B.F. Skinner.
This approach encourages people with autism to learn language by connecting words with their purposes. The student learns that words can help them get desired objects or results. Verbal Behaviour therapy does not focus on words as labels only (cat, car, etc.). Rather, it teaches why we use words and how they are useful in making requests and communicating ideas.

The School
This lovely Brent SEN school was opened in September 2018 with the backing of the local authority and a number of schools providing support at the inception stage. It is well situated with good links to Overground, Jubilee, Circle and Hammersmith and City line stations as well as a great local bus service and some limited parking. It is part of a federation of SEN schools in the borough and is in a temporary building which is spacious and well equipped through to January 2022 when it will move to a purpose built new permanent home.
