About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant and inclusive primary school in Balham. This is a full-time position focused on providing 1:1 support to a Year 5 student with special educational needs (ASD and ADHD). The role involves working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement tailored learning plans and ensure the student's academic and social development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to a Year 5 student with special educational needs, focusing on their individual learning and behavioural requirements.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring the student is fully integrated into classroom activities.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and other support staff to monitor progress and adapt support as necessary.
- Use a range of strategies to support the student's social and emotional well-being.
- Prepare and adapt learning materials and resources.
- Encourage positive interactions and relationships within the school community.
- Maintain accurate records of the student's progress and provide feedback to the teaching team and parents.
- Support the student in managing their behaviour in a positive and constructive manner.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to stay current with best practices in SEN support.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role, preferably within a primary school setting.
- Experience in supporting children with special educational needs, ideally on a 1:1 basis.
- A good understanding of SEN practices and the ability to implement them effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children's learning and development.
Desirable:
- Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
- Experience with specific needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, or learning disabilities.
- Knowledge of educational software and tools used for SEN support.
