Reeson Education is recruiting a dedicated Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in the M3 postcode, catering to pupils aged 11 to 16 with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH), trauma backgrounds, and complex additional needs. This Teaching Assistant role is full-time and long-term, starting in September.
The school is a calm, nurturing environment for children who struggle to thrive in mainstream settings. Class sizes are small, and each Teaching Assistant works closely with pupils to provide tailored academic, emotional, and behavioural support. As a Teaching Assistant, you'll build strong, trusting relationships and act as a key adult for pupils who need stability and consistent support.
Teaching Assistant - What You'll Be Doing:
- Supporting pupils aged 11 to 16 in a special needs setting as a Teaching Assistant
- Delivering 1:1 and small group interventions to support learning, behaviour, and confidence
- Helping pupils with SEMH, trauma, anxiety, and social-emotional difficulties
- Creating structured, positive, and safe environments that encourage engagement
- Assisting class teachers in delivering lessons adapted to individual pupil needs
- Acting as a consistent, compassionate presence for pupils with complex needs
- Monitoring progress and providing tailored support as a Teaching Assistant
- Working across both academic and therapeutic activities, including outdoor learning
- Building positive relationships with families and external professionals
- Promoting resilience, confidence, and emotional regulation as a Teaching Assistant
Teaching Assistant - What We're Looking For:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or similar needs
- A background as a Teaching Assistant, youth worker, mentor, or SEN support worker
- Calm, empathetic, and confident when working with behaviour and emotional needs
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice or a willingness to learn
- Full-time availability from September
- DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
- Commitment to long-term work as a Teaching Assistant in a SEN school
