Teaching Assistant - SEMH Secondary School
We are currently recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH secondary school in the Tameside (OL6) area. This Teaching Assistant role is full-time and long-term, starting immediately, with the potential to become permanent for the right Teaching Assistant.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will be working within a small SEMH class or supporting a pupil on a 1:1 basis. The school is looking for a Teaching Assistant who can provide consistency, structure, and emotional support to pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
The Role - Teaching Assistant
The successful Teaching Assistant will be responsible for supporting pupils across the school day, helping them to regulate emotions, engage with learning, and develop positive behaviour. This Teaching Assistant role requires patience, resilience, and a calm, confident approach.
Key responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant include:
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs within the classroom
- Working 1:1 as a Teaching Assistant with pupils who require targeted support
- Assisting teachers with lesson delivery and classroom management
- Helping pupils to remain engaged, focused, and emotionally regulated
- Supporting behaviour management strategies set by the school
- Working closely with teachers, SEN staff, and other Teaching Assistants
About You - Teaching Assistant
To be successful in this Teaching Assistant role, you will ideally have experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar support role within an SEMH, SEND, PRU, AP, or alternative provision setting.
