Teaching Assistant

The special school is for pupils aged 4-16 with physical disabilities, complex medical needs, complex speech and language difficulties and associated learning difficulties, moderate(MLD), severe(SLD) and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). There is a Further Education Unit for pupils with PMLD aged 16-19.

The SEN School is looking for additional teaching assistant (Grade 2) to support learning, therapy programmes, medical and personal care for pupils across the school with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and complex medical needs.

The Teaching Assistant will be enthusiastic and creative with experience of working with children and at least a Level 2 qualification in an education or care related area. We will provide further training and support, fantastic colleagues and amazing children.

You will work under the direct instruction of teaching/senior staff, usually in the classroom with the teacher, to support access to learning for pupils and provide general support to the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.

Duties and responsibilities of the post may change over time as requirements and circumstances change. The person in the post may also be required to carry out such other duties as may be necessary from time to time.

Key Skills & Experience Desired for SEN Teaching Assistant

  • DBS Certificate issued in last 12 months, ideally with the subscription of the Online Update Service
  • Classroom and behaviour management
  • Experience of working with ASD, PMLD, SLD and other complex needs is advantageous
  • Use of PECS, Makaton and Physical Restraint would be ideal
  • Dealing with challenging behaviour
  • Personable and positive nature
  • Available Immediately
