The School

I am seeking at appoint a number of fantastic Teaching Assistant staff for a dynamic new school based in the heart of Wembley. This exciting small school (currently only 11 children on the roll) is fantastically resourced and benefits from backers who want to have a positive impact on the pupils, staff and wider community. The school caters for pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH) or who have been excluded from mainstream education.

This Wembley school has the absolute best of everything in terms of facilities (purpose built new school building), resources, therapy staff and leadership. The school has been backed by a number of celebrities and high net worth individuals who are putting money into the school and its associated charity to benefit young people and the wider community in what they collectively call a "legacy project".

The school is based in Wembley North West London and they are keen to arrange interviews as soon as possible.

The Teaching Assistant Role

This fantastic Wembley school is looking for a teaching assistant to work 1:1 with students at key stage 4 who may require additional support in their lessons. You would be assisting the subject teacher in a class of up to 8 students. The students will be following a curriculum of English, Maths, ICT, Science and Personal and Social Development (PSD) in addition to being offered a range of vocational and non-vocational subjects. At this level, the pupils are working below the national average and so you would need to be supportive, energetic and enthusiastic in order to help the students reach their potential.

The position starts with a basic salary of £19,000 per annum to start with and there is significant training provision and career development pathways for staff to allow them to broaden their role, take on additional responsibility and in turn increase their earning potential.

The Teaching Assistant Candidate

As a member of Teaching Assistant staff team, you would need to motivate students, boost self-esteem and promote the social and personal development in pupils around the school. The successful Teaching Assistant candidate must display excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to work effectively with students, teachers, parents/carers and other support staff, and having a good sense of humour would be beneficial. Prior experience in working with children with challenging or disruptive behaviour would be desirable although the school does train all staff in de-escalation techniques and Team Teach.
