About the Role
A large, inclusive Tower Hamlets primary school is seeking a skilled SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs within a mainstream classroom setting. This role involves providing consistent one-to-one and small-group support to help pupils regulate emotions, engage with learning, and build positive relationships.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to implement behaviour plans, support transitions, and use de-escalation strategies throughout the school day. The school is experienced in supporting SEMH needs and has clear systems and expectations in place.
The Ideal Candidate
The school is looking for an SEMH Teaching Assistant who:
Has experience supporting children with SEMH needs
Is confident managing challenging behaviour calmly and safely
Understands trauma-informed or restorative approaches
Can build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
Is resilient, patient, and consistent
