Teaching Assistant - Part-Time Mornings - ASC & ADHD - Year 1 - Muswell Hill, North London
A primary school in Muswell Hill, North London is seeking a mature, highly experienced Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 child with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and ADHD on a 1:1 basis. This Teaching Assistant role is part-time, working five mornings per week (8:30am-12:30pm), starting on 23rd February 2026.
This is a very challenging Teaching Assistant role and the school is clear that only candidates with significant SEND experience should apply. Applicants must have a minimum of two year's experience supporting children with ASC, ideally within specialist provisions, PRUs, or complex SEND settings.
The pupil presents significant behavioural challenges, including physical aggression towards adults, and requires constant supervision. As a Teaching Assistant, you will work primarily 1:1 in a group room close to the classroom, following a bespoke timetable with structured breaks taken separately from peers.
Key responsibilities of this Teaching Assistant role include:
Providing consistent 1:1 support as a Teaching Assistant
Structuring each morning with clear routines and regular movement breaks
Applying proven ASC-specific strategies to increase attention and engagement
Managing behaviour confidently with strong boundaries and emotional regulation techniques
Using declarative language to reduce triggers and escalation
Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and parents
Contributing to IEPs, reports, and EHCP meetings as a Teaching Assistant
Essential requirements:
Minimum 2 years' experience as a Teaching Assistant supporting ASC
Excellent behaviour management skills and emotional resilience
Ability to work independently and adapt learning activities quickly
Good understanding of the British SEND system
Positive handling training is highly desirable
