Teaching Assistant

Reeson Education is seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Manchester (M20). This is a fantastic opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting pupils with very complex and challenging needs, including behavioural needs. The successful Teaching Assistant will work in class, with larger groups, 1:1, and 2:1 support as required.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils in a range of activities, assist teachers with lesson delivery, and provide consistent, nurturing, and safe support for children with additional needs. The school is looking for a Teaching Assistant who is confident in supporting pupils with challenging behaviours and who is trained in restraint techniques, ensuring safe and structured learning environments.

Teaching Assistant - Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils in class, larger groups, 1:1, and 2:1 as a Teaching Assistant
  • Assist teachers with lesson planning and delivery
  • Implement behavioural support strategies for pupils with complex needs
  • Carry out structured and unstructured activities as a Teaching Assistant
  • Promote emotional regulation, safety, and positive engagement
  • Monitor and record progress and provide feedback to teachers and SLT
  • Use safe restraint techniques where required as a trained Teaching Assistant
  • Maintain a calm, consistent, and supportive presence
  • Collaborate with staff, families, and external professionals
  • Always uphold safeguarding policies and procedures

Teaching Assistant - Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar role in SEND settings
  • Knowledge and experience of working with pupils with behavioural and complex needs
  • Restraint-trained or willing to undertake training
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills
  • Confident in working with pupils both independently and within group settings
